THROUGH THE POSTPOSITIVIST

Book Description

The currents of positivist thought in social sciences seem very diverse at first glance. There are some approaches that criticize positivism as a philosophy of science and a method. In this study, first of all, their real situation and how they are related or contradictory with positivism are examined. For this, they are discussed from the main points they object to positivism. Postpositivist paradigms increased after the rejection of Auguste Comtean positivism. Dialectical and historical materialism, based on the construction of positivism by Auguste Comte, has been independent of post-positivist paradigms. The positivist investigative paradigm is useful for researchers who adhere to quantitative study methods. Positivist knowledge begins with a set of hypotheses. Next comes controlled experiments that produce a statistical result, and then it is determined whether the result supports various hypotheses. When a problem is truly solvable and can be addressed through inductive or deductive reasoning. For academics and students, the Positivist investigative paradigm can yield results. Positivism believes in the traditional scientific method. The extent to which the criticisms brought to positivism are a methodological alternative is explained within the historical framework in the book.
